CPU load while using the Bot

Post by Bonder » Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:47 pm

Hey pals,

Is there any way to decrease the CPU usage of the Bot?
I changed the Priority in taskmanager to low but its not affecting it.
I have problems to sleep when the Fan is running high :P

Could you give me any advice?

One of the aims is to decrease the CPU usage, not increase it, but I guess thats what you meant.

Changing the task priority in task manager, means that Windows will schedule other tasks ahead of the application, and thus provide less responsiveness, not that it will use less CPU horsepower when the application is provided the use of the CPU. It will end up meaning the bot will have to work harder, purely because there will be potentially be longer time slices between when it can process the data it needs to process. Raising Priority will not result in reducing the CPU, but may mean that LOTRO and other Windows services lag, while the CPU time is allocated to the bot, so it can effectively do nothing. Mucking around with task priority is a bad idea as it can have all sorts of bad side effects, and will more than likley end up crashing your computer.

If the CPU fan is too noisey, spend some cash and invest in a high quality cpu cooler designed to operate quietly. There are plenty of them out there.

The other option of course is to turn the computer off when sleeping. Saves electricity too.

Thank you bob for this long Post :-D
Iam sry, i meant decrease!
Ive got a MacMini, so changing the cpu fan isnt an option.
Without bot you cant hear it but if i start him it gets sometimes annoying
btw i never ever got a crash by changing the priority of anything.
And why bot when awake? when i can do it when i sleep? the bot is great to do it in the night time.
Just wanted to hear something about the CPU consumption.

You should have in mind, what the bot is doing in the background, and believe me, its alot:
  • request and recieve/catch all messages from the lotro client (about 5 times per second)
  • request infos about your own entity = player (about 3 times per second)
  • request infos about all entities around you = npc, other players, mobs, items (about 3 times per second)
  • request available skills
  • and so on...
Infos are for example locations, positions (heading), states (combat, dead), vitals (morale, power)

The bot needs sensor informations to decide what to do and how to react. The bot functions trying to replace your eyes, brain and hands. ;)

Hey rhui :)

I know the bot has to do tons of tasks in seconds cause hes immitating a human beeing.
I was just curious if the programmers (you?) are working on a performance improvement in that way.
So, all my questions got answered :) and thank you for this informative post :D

I think it would be cool to pimp a mac mini. You could cut a hole in the top and have a big fuck off cooler poking out the top. Kind of like a muscle car, but more a muscle mac mini
